Frequently Asked Questions

How does an Early Stream Emission Lightning Rod (ESE) work? Instead of passively waiting for a lightning strike, the Indelec Prevectron® head generates an artificial leader (early stream emission) that meets the descending discharge. This allows the system to "capture" the lightning higher up and safely direct it to the ground, protecting a much larger area than a traditional rod.

Is one Indelec mast sufficient to protect the entire showroom and parking lot? In most cases, yes. Indelec heads have a very large protection radius (depending on the chosen model and required level of protection). Our engineers always perform a detailed design and simulation to ensure that the entire facility – including external infrastructure – is 100% safe.

Are Indelec systems compliant with Polish and European standards? Yes. The active lightning protection systems Indelec Prevectron® are designed and installed according to the strict NFC 17-102 standard, and their effectiveness is confirmed by tests in independent high-voltage laboratories and certificates from, among others, the Lightning Protection Institute.

Is the installation of an ESE system more expensive than a traditional lightning rod network? Considering the total investment cost (materials, labor time on the roof, the need for lifts, costs of later inspections), the Indelec system often proves to be a more cost-effective solution. Especially in the case of large, flat roofs typical for service halls.

Does an active system (ESE) replace internal surge protection? No. The Indelec Prevectron® head is an element of external lightning protection – it protects the building and its surroundings from the physical effects of a lightning strike (e.g., fire). However, a powerful electromagnetic impulse can still damage electronics. Therefore, for the complete safety of EV charging stations, diagnostic equipment, or inverters, the installation is supplemented with appropriately selected surge protectors (internal protection).

How does the Indelec system perform in the case of external energy storage (BESS)? It is one of its most optimal applications. Thanks to the large protection radius, one mast installed on the main building of the showroom or on a dedicated pole next to it can create a safe "umbrella" over free-standing container battery storage, transformer stations, and fast DC chargers. We secure the infrastructure without the need to interfere with the enclosures of the devices themselves.

How often should inspections of such a system be conducted? Inspections of lightning protection installations, regardless of their type, are regulated by building law (they are usually recommended once a year) and after each direct lightning strike. An advantage of the Indelec system is the possibility of installing a discharge counter (including models with remote monitoring), which allows for precise assessment of whether the system has absorbed a strike and requires immediate inspection, without the need to physically access the roof.

Can the Indelec system be installed on an already functioning workshop? Definitely yes. Upgrading an existing facility using ESE technology is significantly faster and less invasive than installing a passive lightning rod network. Work on the roof and facade is limited to an absolute minimum, allowing installation to usually occur without disrupting the daily operations of the service or customer service in the showroom.

Does a certified lightning protection system affect the insurance conditions of the facility? Insurance companies take a very rigorous approach to assessing fire risk in facilities repairing electric vehicles and storing lithium-ion batteries. Having a modern, certified lightning protection system (designed according to the requirements of, among others, the NFC 17-102 standard) is proof to the insurer of the highest standard of security, which often serves as a key argument when negotiating terms and premiums of the policy.

Who is responsible for the design and installation at my facility? We conduct the process comprehensively. As EVSolutions, we have teamed up with experienced engineers from LCS Lightning Control Systems. We provide full support: from audit and risk assessment for your service, through a dedicated engineering design, to the delivery of equipment, authorized installation, and final measurements confirmed by a protocol.

Why Indelec Prevectron is the optimal choice for the Automotive and EV industry?

Traditional industrial facilities differ from modern repair stations. Protecting electromobility infrastructure presents entirely new challenges for investors, to which Indelec has a ready answer.

  • Battery storage protection (HV): Minimizing the risk of ignition and uncontrolled chain reactions (thermal runaway) due to surges or direct impact on the facility.

  • Charging station protection (DC/AC): The protective radius of the Indelec system covers not only the building itself but also adjacent parking lots and external chargers, safeguarding the fleet of vehicles from destruction.

  • Protection of sensitive electronics: Effective protection for advanced calibration devices (ADAS), diagnostic testers, and IT infrastructure within the service.

Indelec Prevectron® vs traditional lightning protection system

Choosing between a modern active lightning rod (ESE) and a traditional passive mesh is a decision that affects costs, aesthetics, and safety levels.

Advantages of the Indelec Prevectron® system:

  • Larger protective radius: One active Indelec head can secure an area with a radius of up to several dozen meters. This protects not only the main building but also adjacent facilities (e.g., canopies, chargers, buffer zones).

  • Less invasive installation: A traditional mesh requires running hundreds of meters of wire across the roof and facade. Indelec typically requires just one aesthetic mast and only a few down conductors.

  • No interference with the roof covering: Reducing the number of mounting elements on the roof drastically lowers the risk of leaks and loss of warranty on the roofing (especially important with modern halls made of sandwich panels).

  • High aesthetics: The absence of a visible "web" of wires on the facade allows for a clean, modern look that complies with architectural guidelines for the dealership showroom.

  • Lower maintenance costs: Fewer components in the system mean a lower risk of mechanical failures and cheaper periodic inspections.

Modern automotive infrastructure – particularly charging stations, lithium-ion battery storage, and electronics-rich EV service centers – requires an uncompromising approach to safety. A lightning strike poses not only a risk of property damage but, more importantly, the threat of a catastrophic fire from traction batteries and the loss of expensive diagnostic equipment.
